Fall 2018 Courses at BRCC

BRCC Logo I hope everyone is enjoying their summer here in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The continuing education department at BRCC and I have been hard at work getting ready for the fall semester, a printed schedule should be mailed later this summer for planning and registering for classes starting this fall. To help you out now I've put together a listing of the courses I will be offering thru the college. You can view and download the document attached below in the attachments area on this page.

As usual we are offering classes covering Windows 10 from beginner to those switching from Windows 7 to 10 and business users. Computers 101 and Computers 102 are for the beginning computer user, Computers 201 is intended for this with computer experience but new to Windows 10. Computers 301 is for the more experienced computer user that wants to harness some of the skills needed for business and an introduction to the Microsoft Office software and their free Google counterparts.

We're also offering our usual iPhone and iPad courses; iPhone 101, iPad 101, iPhone and iPad 201, iPhone and iPad Photography, and iPhone and iPad 250 courses. These courses are designed to be taken in sequence to get you up and running with either your new iPhone or iPad to becoming more comfortable using many of the apps and services used by experienced users take advantage of everyday on their iPhones or iPads.

We're also adding a few new courses that you may be interested in. Intro to Cloud Services will cover some popular Cloud services such as iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive and others as well as the extra services hosted by your email provider for storing and synchronizing contact, calendars, notes across your different Internet connected devices such as tablets and mobile phones. If you're new to the Cloud this course will take the mystery out of using the Cloud to be more productive and keep your information synchronized across multiple devices.

Our new Fun with iPhone and iPad Apps takes a look into some of the diverse apps you can download from the Apple App Store. If you want to expand your knowledge and enjoyment of your iPhone or iPad this course will help you discover apps that help you get fit, be more secure online, or simply play some games.

If you've wondered what all the hoopla is around smart homes the new Smart Home Basics course will help you understand what a smart home is and how to get started. From automatically turning on and off lights to monitoring your home while away on a vacation this course will introduce you to the ideas behind a smart home, some of the products available to get you started and help you determine where to start in the process of making your home smarter.
